Difference between Acrylic Sheet and Common Glass

Acrylic sheet and common glass look like a family, in fact they completely belong to two different families. Common glass is made of silicate, but the "parents" of acrylic sheet are acetone, methanol, sulfuric acid and hydrogen cyanide.


Acrylic sheet has a more stubborn character generally than common glass. Although its density is smaller than common glass, Acrylic sheet is not as easily broken as the glass. Its transparency is very good, glittering and shining. And Acrylic sheet has very good thermoplastic. You can shape in into Acrylic tube, Acrylic rod, Acrylic pope or other forms if you heaten it. Due to its attractive appearance and personality, Acrylic sheet is widely applied in all fields.


Flying in the air, the jet would often encounter severe vibration, temperature mutations, air pressure and other special situations which is acid test to the aircraft cockpit Windows. And the window that can withstand the test is made of Acrylic sheet. Acrylic sheet window would not broken into pieces even if it is hit by a bullet. There will only leave a small hole to prevent the accidents and injuries caused by glass debris.

If the thickness of the common glass is more than 15 cm, it becomes a piece of green glass. You can see nothing clear across the glass. But you can see things on the other side clearly through 1m thick Acrylic sheet. Because the light transmission performance of Acrylic sheet is very excellent and it can even allow ultraviolet ray to pass. Acrylic sheet is always used to produce optical instruments.



Acrylic sheet is both light and tough. The chemical performance is fairly stable. It is also very easy to reshape if heated. The application of Acrylic sheet is very extensive.



If appropriately add some dyes in Acrylic sheet raw materials, we can get colored Acrylic according to the needs of the people such as red, green and purple.
